DAISY / EPUB3 - Inclusive Publishing Training by SCERT and Tamilnadu Textbook Corporation
State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and Tamilnadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation of Tamilnadu is organising a two day training workshop on Inclusive Publishing. The workshop is being held on 9th and 10th February 2017, at the Conference Hall, Anna Centenary Library, Chennai. The training is conducted by technical experts from DAISY Consortium India, Delhi and publishing technology experts from Tamilnadu.
The objective of this training workshop is to provide skills and knowledge of creating eBooks in DAISY / EPUB3 format using Unicode fonts so that they are usable by everyone including persons with print disabilities. Persons with print disabilities include those with Low vision, Total Blindness, Deaf Blind conditions, severe motor difficulties and specific learning difficulties in reading (Dyslexia). DAISY / EPUB3 allows publishers to produce and send a single digital publication file through distribution and offers consumers interoperability between software/hardware for unencrypted reflowable digital books and other publications. It allows easy workflow of regular book formatting through publishing applications like adobe enhanced to be delivered simultaneously for various content delivery formats like e-text, large print, braille and audio. This in turn, enables print-on-demand and accessible reading resources like Text books published. This is one of the pioneering initiative at state level in the country by the SCERT and Textbook corporation to promote inclusive publishing.
The trainees participating in the workshop are from SCERT, Textbook Corporation, Authors and Publishers working with SCERT, Braille Section of Anna Centenary Library and Tamil Virtual Academy, Chennai
